Season -
New-leaf.
The weather is turning light and breezy, but the wind and rain won't pass easily, nor without a fight. Anticipation is thick in the air, making the fur of the Clan cats prickle with worry. What could be brewing in the forest?

((Note: These cats that appear in the story, save for Fernstar and the other cats in certain roles have never existed or die in the story. They are there just to help the story along. Also, seeing as I wasn't exactly here for the better part of the site's existance or plots, events may be a little scrambled or inaccurate. I'll do my best though.))
Three moons old Two green eyes gazed out of the gloom, wide with hard-fought concentration. The figure's gaze flickered back and forth, distracted by the many sights of her small world. The young feline shook with excitement, her kit body practically vibrating as she watched her intended target step into the small grove. It was another feline, though her pelt was of a deep ebony color. The older she-cat looked around the clearing that she lived. She searched for only one thing and that was her only kit. Fern. The black queen finally spotted the kit, hiding behind a large moss-covered rock. The queen chuckled and continued on her paw as she pretended not to see the young one.
Fern squeaked in excitement as her mother appeared to miss her. I knew this was a good hiding place! she thought, crouching low. It was time.
"Rawr!" the tiny brown kit cried, running as fast as her short legs would let her. Her mother, a she-cat named Raven, still pretened to not see the kit as it darted toward her.
"OOF!" Raven fell onto her side as she felt her daughter bump into her leg. She lay there quietly as the small kit hopped onto her flank. "You got me." she meowed, opening one eye and smiling.
"YES!" Fern cried, short tail sticking straight up in the air. She laughed, delight filling her at her victory. Jumping off, she nuzzled her mother's face as the older she-cat purred.
"I love you mom." she whispered, snuggling closer into the night-colored fur.
"I love you too my little Fern." Raven whispered, licking the kit once more. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Four moons Fern sat huddled in the mossy nest her mother had made, her eyes wide with fright. Earlier her mother had raced off when a group of rogues had burst onto their home. She had not seen her mother since. "Mother..." she whispered, curling up into a ball. She knew that she should not fall asleep, yet it kept tugging and tugging...... Before she knew it, she was falling down....down.....down.......
"Wake up Fern." The young kit started, opening her eyes to see her mother standing over her. The voice had scared her. It was filled with fright and raspy. "What's going on?" she asked, startled as her mother grabbed her by her scruff.
"We have to go." Raven gasped out, back out of the bush. With that the cat began to run, run far away from the place she once called home. It was no longer safe, but deadly. ~~~~~ A short while later, Fern fell from her mother's jaws. The small kit whimpered as she hit the cold stone. Why did her mother drop her like that? The kit peered upward, trying to see Raven't face. Though it was dark, she could still see Raven. The kit gasped and scrambled to her feet, backing away a few steps.
The black she-cat was hurt very badly, blood dripping onto the ground. Her pelt was stained with it, and she was leaning to one side. "Fern.....The rogues......Only safe place......Forgive me......" Raven croaked. With a pain-filled cry, the she-cat collapsed onto one side. Fern rushed forward, quivering with fear. "Mother? Mother? Mother!" she cried, frantically pushing her nose into the cat's fur. It was too late, but she wouldn't allow it. This couldn't be happening. It just couldn't! "No! You can't leave! No!" The kit cried once more. Tears pouring down her face, she pushed herself closer to her mother, sobbing into the now cold fur.

((It's so sad. D: But in a good way. Most lifestories are sad, so you can't be criticized for that. x3 But it's really, really good. Just remember to make a bio in the bio section.))

"Hey! Brindletail, come here. Look at this!"
"What is it Sunpaw?"
"A dead cat! There's a kit by her!"
"Great StarClan!" Suddenly, a nose was gently pushed against Fern who had, in fact, been listening to the whole conversation. She opened her eyes and tensed, swinging a fragile paw at the tom.
Brindletail drew his head back in surprise, his eyes wide. "The kit's alive!" he exclaimed. Fern looked closer now, feeling a bit more awake. There were two toms in front of her, one larger than the other. The younger one, perhaps this Sunpaw, was a red tabby. The other who she thought was Brindletail was a dark brown tom. "Come, little one." The older tom meowed. Fern felt herself being picked up by her scruff. Letting out a soft whine, she scrabbled to get free. "Mama," she cried, feeling useless as they traveled farther away from her mother, "Mama!"
But the tom didn't stop, and eventually Fern hung from his jaws like prey. It was too late; her mother was never coming back. The young kit began sobbing again, the small tears dropping onto the ground like rain as she was carried away from the one she loved most forever. ---- Fern hung silently from the tom's jaws, hearing the young tom beside him jabbering away. She knew not where they were going, nor what would happen to her. Right now she didn't care. Her whole world had come crashing down in just a few moments.
The young kit blinked as the tom suddenly stopped. She twisted herself, swinging slightly. The tom grunted in surprise but did not hesitate as he stepped forward. The light changed and suddenly Fern was surrounded by massive trees. She could hear meows, laughs, and purrs as they continued on. Strange scents began to reach her ebony-colored nose. Old cats and young cats alike seemed to be hear. Fern squinted then, for they had suddenly come into a bright clearing. She gazed around in awe at the many trees that seemed to protect and surround the clearing. They were huge! What surprised her most was the many holes that seemed to dot the trees. Giving a mew of surprise as a cat head appeared from one of them, she watched in amazement as he began leaping down the branches to the ground. More cats lounged about, some laying on top of the huge exposed roots of the trees. Fern was confused. What was this place? Suddenly she froze as another cat looked toward her. It was a cat just slightly older than her. Then something broke the stare; A loud yowl rang out, scaring the wits out of Fern. Once again she was moving, Brindletail still carrying her along toward the biggest tree of all. The trunk was huge, the tree massive. Standing atop one of the branches was a large tom. He seemed slightly frail, as if he was getting on in age. But from the proud way his head was lifted and the way the other cats looked at him, Fern could tell he was important. -c-
"When the waters of disaster meet the forest floor, five unlikely must step up, before the clans are no more."
"This is the chilling prophecy that five medicine cats receive on an oddly cold night in New-leaf when five cats give birth to new litters. Along with these words comes an image: Five shadowy figures standing on a hill in the pelting rain with several cats below them. Eventually, the words are put out of mind.
Now zoom forward a few moons. It's the middle of new-leaf, and several kits have been Apprenticed. Rainpaw of TreeClan, Streampaw of DesertClan, Riverpaw of RapidClan, Ripplepaw of SwampClan, and Wetpaw of SparkClan. These apprentices do not know each other, and carry separate personalities. Strangely, they have one thing in common. They keep seeing these images in dreams. Their territories under water, cats running from a large wave of water, etc. They tell no one, but they also keep hearing the words of the long-forgotten prophecy when they least expect it.
Another image that comes to mind is a large lake that only a few recognize. Then comes the unending rain. Will the apprentices realize their destiny? Will they come together, despite Clan boundaries, to save the Clans'? Only time will tell."
